provide only indirect approval and information disclosed mainly some episodes of
the life and creative work of the scientist and some aspects of his scientific heritage.
Until the early 1990-s sources and materials about Gorbachevskyi, his work
remained virtually inaccessible to researchers in Ukraine. In Soviet historiography
presented a one-sided assessment of the activities of the scientist, and the sources,
containing information on the chosen subject, are common and popular with a
narrow origin base.
The main part is focused on the fundamental analysis of invention of Ivan
Gorbachevskyi - synthesis of uric acid by melting glycine with carbamide at a
temperature of 200-230
. It was found importance and role of the invention in the
historical development of medicinal chemistry, its relevance and practical value.
For in-depth historical and analytical study established periodization of
creative work of the scientist, identified the major stages of its formation, studied
scientific works of I. Gorbachevskyi and analyzed his teaching career:
I period
(Ukrainian) (1854 – 1873) – acquiring a basic knowledge, the
formation of scientific interests of the future scientist. Training in the gymnasium.
One of the first members of the group «Community» founded by a student of 6th
grade Ivan Poluj in January 1863. In 1872 I Gorbachevskyi became the Chairman of
the group. Immediately I can admit that the young man beside training activities has
taken a clear civil position, which became the solid core of his character for life;
II period
(Vienna) (1873 – 1883). – becoming of scientific and teaching
experience in universities, the beginning of creative activity, formation as a
scientist-chemist. Study of medicine at Vienna University and receiving a degree of
doctor of medicine. During the training he was a president of the student society
"Sich" (1875-1877). The publication of the first scientific works on the vestibular
nerve, but also the synthesis of uric acid, which caused a scientific sensation;
III period
(Prague) (1883 – 1942) – a period of fruitful scientific, pedagogical
and educational activities in Prague University, the Ukrainian free University,
