Great merit of I. Gorbachevskyi to science is that he was the first (1899) to
found the source of uric acid in the human body. The theory of the formation of uric
acid in mammals and humans, which he put forward, has not lost their significance
to this day.
Modern ideas about the biosynthesis of uric acid included several new data
about the influence of various factors of exo - and endogenous origin on the
biosynthesis and content of this substance in the tissues of the body. This direction
is based by I. Gorbachevskyi, successfully developing in many scientific schools of
the world, especially in the studying of disorders of metabolism of nucleic acids.
According to the French scientist F. Coste (1953) labors of
Acad. Gorbachevskyi about artificial synthesis and studies of biosynthesis of uric
acid in the body remain unsurpassed even today.
