The peculiarities of the activity and evolution of the natural section of the USS after
the formation of the UAS are considered. The relationship between the development
of the natural institutions of the USS and the UAS during the years 1918–1921 was
revealed. Special significance of scientific achievements of the members of the
natural section, later – the natural department, in forming the basis for future research
of the institutes of natural and agricultural direction of the Academy of Sciences was
found out.
Particular attention is paid to the activities of the Commission on the formation
of the UAS. In particular, the main projects of forming the network of institutions of
the Department of Applied Natural Sciences of the UAS were analyzed. The main
reasons for the refusal to form a separate department of applied sciences of the
founders of the UAS and the formation of the advisory scientific body – the
Agricultural Scientific Committee of Ukraine formed at the Ministry of Land Affairs.
The branch institutionalization of natural and agricultural institutions of All-
Ukrainian Academy of Sciences (AUAS) is covered. The process of formation of
academic chairs, Gardens, Commissions, sections in the structure of the Academy of
Sciences and their scientific achievements in the agricultural industry is shown. The
basic directions of research of agrobiological institutes during the 1920’s and before
the beginning of the period of permanent reorganizations of the AUAS in the late
1920’s and the middle of the 1930’s were determined. The main motives of the
separate existence of branch research and academic science during the 1920’s were
described in detail. The main achievements of the scientific research institutes of the
UAS-AUAS-AS of the Ukrainian SSR during the investigated period were
characterized and generalized.
The questions of the first attempt of representation of agrarian science in the
system of AUAS after the election of the actual members of the Academy of Sciences
in June 1929 are revealed. Features of construction of scientific and organizational
work of newly established departments of soil science, physical and chemical
physiology of plants, hydrology are revealed.
