The main reasons for liquidation of the academic department as the main unit of
BUAN and formation of a network of research institutes are found out. The evolution
of a number of chairs in the powerful institutes of AUAS of agrobiological direction
is revealed. The basic regularities of development of institutes of natural and
agricultural profile in the system of AUAS during the 1920–1930’s were established.
Much attention is paid to the highlighting, formation and productive activity of
research institutes of AUAS in order to meet the practical needs of the agricultural
sector. The main achievements of the scientific institutes of natural and agricultural
direction and their application significance are revealed. An important contribution to
the development of agrarian science in the 1930’s belonged to the following institutes
of AUAS: Zoology and Biology (I.I. Shmalgauzen Institute of Zoology), botany
(M.G. Kholodny Institute of Botany), Microbiology and Epidemiology
(D.K. Zabolotny Institute of Microbiology and Virology), chemical technology,
biochemistry and economics. The main scientific achievements of the mentioned
institutes are presented. The main motives of the Presidium of the AUAS concerning
the reorganization of the network of research institutions of small institutions (chairs,
commissions, sections) into powerful institutions are analyzed.
The process of development of agricultural science in the conditions of constant
reorganizations of the Academy of Sciences and mass repressions in the 1930’s is
considered. The main features of the cooperation between AUAS and All-Ukrainian
Academy of Agricultural Science (AUAAS) are determined. In particular, the
distinction between research activities between the two academies has been set aside:
AUAS has carried out a number of fundamental and applied research in the field of
natural science, while solving the general problems of agriculture put forward by the
governments of the Ukrainian SSR, while AUAAS has comprehensively developed
all the key research questions. The agrarian sector and implemented the results into
practical life. Nevertheless, research work in the agricultural sector of the two
academic institutions was carried out in a relationship, which allowed to solve a
