Summary

A review of the documents of the personal archives of the outstanding Ukrainian mathematician, corresponding member of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine Oleksandr Ivanovych Stepanets, stored at the Institute of Archival Studies of the Vernadsky National Library of Ukraine. Therefore, the author’s aim is to analyze the species composition and the degree of informativeness of the documents of the personal archival fund of O. I. Stepanets. The research methodology covers general scientific methods: analysis, synthesis, comparison, descriptive, detailing, generalization, objective-factual. In the course of search and processing of archival documents, study of scientific-organizational and teaching activities of O. I. Stepanets the author used, first of all, the technique used in archival heuristics, and also special-historical methodology, in particular, historical-chronological, historical-comparative, biographical, reconstructive, historical-typological, historical-systemic methods and method of historical-source analysis. The selected methods allowed to identify and analyze the species composition of documents deposited in the personal fund of the scientist. The scientific novelty of the study is that for the first time a wide array of documents of the personal fund of the corresponding member of the NAS of Ukraine O. I. Stepanets, which reflect his life and work, was introduced into scientific circulation. Prospects for further studies. The source component of O. I. Stepanets, personal fund documents presented in the exploration and their information potential enable further deepening of the study of the scientist's biography and scientific heritage. Conclusions. It is established that the documents of the personal archival fund are a full-fledged and informative source concerning the reconstruction of little-known pages of life and activity of the corresponding member of the NAS of Ukraine O. I. Stepanets.
