Summary

The article is devoted to the key milestones of the life and work of Yevhen Oskarovich Paton (1870–1953) – the founder of national electric welding and bridge construction. A biographical reconstruction of the formation of the scientific outlook of an outstanding scientist (1870–1905) is proposed. For the first time, personal and value-based influence of the teacher and mentor L.D. Proskuryakov on the formation of Paton’s scientific paradigm is characterized.

The scientific and pedagogical activity of Yevhen Oskarovich in Moscow Engineering College (1896–1904) is determined and analyzed. The influence of L.D. Proskuryakov on the formation of scientific and pedagogical worldview of Ye.O. Paton as well as the role of the latter in Proskuryakov’s scientific and technical school is highlighted. The first scientific articles of Ye.O. Paton on bridge issues are analyzed. The eliminating influence of a personality in the history of science and technology, namely, L.D. Proskuryakov on Ye.O. Paton is stressed.
