Summary

The development of the Ukrainian culture in the second half of XIX – early XX century is considered on the basis of the specific historical, problematic and chronological methods analysis. Special attention is paid to the development of the workers and peasants education, literacy of Ukrainian nation. Characterized the work of state bodies second half of XIX century influenced by the works of T. Shevchenko, M. Drahomanov, І. Franko, Р. Skoropadskyi, V. Vernadsky and others. Highlight the plot which refers to the rapid development of science and technology that has created a peculiar situation in the cultural process. Within a generation were formed not only the new science and technology, but also new social groups, significantly increased the intellectual potential of society. It was shown the work of the Central Rada, the Hetmanate and the Directory. Emphasized the oppression and prohibitions Russian Empire on development of the Ukrainian nation.
